The FAIF Film Festival is an annual event of the non-profit FAIF (Foundation for the Advancement of Independent Films) dedicated to promoting and supporting the art of the motion picture through the presentation of an annual, multi-day festival in which independent films submitted by filmmakers throughout the world are publicly exhibited at the Mann Chinese 6 Theaters, in Hollywood, California. Other festival events will take place including the spectacular newly designed Awards Show at the festivals "Official Hotel" The upscale and classy Renaissance Hollywood Hotel!

October - With its close proximity to UCLA, Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Holmby Hills and Brentwood, The Majestic Crest theatre is the perfect location to showcase and launch independent product. For only second time in history the United States Golf Association will stage its national championship on a public golf course when the 2008 U.S. Open is conducted at Torrey Pines' South Course outside San Diego, Calif. In joining New York's Bethpage State Park's Black Course on the exclusive public course list, Torrey Pines also marks the first time the season's second major will be held in southern California since 1948.

Come celebrate and partake in the annual North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival. The 26th Annual Snow Festival is scheduled for March 2-11, 2007. Every spring since 1982, North Lake Tahoe comes alive with ten fun-filled days and nights, jam packed with events and activities for all ages. The Emmy Awards are United States television production awards, similar to the Peabody Awards but more focused on entertainment. September - LA Shorts Fest is the largest short film festival in the world. The Festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Festival winners in the primary categories are eligible for Academy nomination. October - TarFest is a festival of emerging film, music and art held at the La Brea Tar Pits and the surrounding Museum Row in the historic Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles.

April / May

San Diego Brazil Carnaval is one of the largest most authentic Carnaval Event in California. It brings together San Diego’s Brazilian community and the rest of San Diego to celebrate the most important party of the year. Through out the years, San Diego Carnaval Mardi Gras has served as a vehicle to bring people together and build a cultural bridge between Brazil and the United States.

March - The Awards remained at the Music Center until 1987, when they returned to the Shrine Auditorium for the 60th and 61st Awards. Subsequently the Awards moved back and forth between the Shrine and the Music Center. The Shrine Auditorium, with seating for 6,000, was used mainly to accommodate as many Academy members as possible; the Music Center seats only about 2,500. The Awards returned to Hollywood for the 2001 (74th) Awards Presentation at the state-of-the-art 3,300-seat Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland.

In celebrating over one hundred years of tradition, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles presents the 2008 Golden Dragon Parade. With over 110,000 individuals lining the parade route and thousands viewing the telecast each year, this colorful celebration along North Broadway in Chinatown has become the premiere cultural event in the Southern California Asian-American Community.

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards honored the best in music of the recording year of 2006. The 2006 recording year started on October 1, 2005 and ended on September 30, 2006. The awards were handed out on Sunday February 11, 2007 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. As in most years since 2003, the ceremony did not have a host. <br> The only people who are allowed to vote for the Grammy Awards are those who are members of the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Members must have worked on six albums (in terms of production, engineering, mixing, or being the recording artist). NARAS members are peers of all who submit their work to the recording Academy. NARAS members are to vote based upon the quality of the work that has been submitted. It is highly stressed to voting NARAS members not to look at sales or charts when voting. Artists, producers, engineers/mixers or record companies are allowed to make submissions to the Recording Academy. The deadline for all submissions for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards is September 1, 2006. Nominating ballots are sent to NARAS members by October 1, 2006 which is after the 2006 recording year ends. On the ballot they are allowed to nominate any of the work submitted. Founded by Sonny Bono, The Palm Springs International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in the country, screening over 200 films from more than 60 countries to an audience of over 70,000. From ages 5 to 85, the festival brings together communities as diverse as the retired citizens of the desert, the young, hip industry crowd of Los Angeles and film aficionados from around the world. Every October, this single-day celebration brings together Tahitian Dance groups from across Hawaii, Japan, and the mainland to demonstrate their craft through spirited performances. Toofy was born the only son of a Hippie artist and small woodland creature after a drunken tryst near Eldorado Springs. Ashamed of his pretentious Hippie heritage he fled. On his exodus from pretentious art, he discovered the beauty of the undiscovered artisans. Years later he emerged with the ambition to start a film festival that would liberate his newfound friends, exposing their raw talent to a wide audience and lend a contribution to the independent world of cinema, fashion, fine art and music... so there's your Toofy.

The Mission of the Arizona Classic Jazz Society is to perpetuate, promote and present the American art form known as jazz during the period in which the music was created and celebrated through such styles as Dixieland (Trad Jazz, Traditional Jazz, Classic Jazz, New Orleans Jazz) and Swing. Through the presentation of live performances, we support the artists and seek to inform, educate, entertain both listeners and dancers and involve persons of all ages, with a special emphasis on youth.

“The 2006 ARIZONA BALLOON FESTIVAL-CHANDLER (R)” and a "BOOO-Looning" Halloween event with more than 50 colorful hot-air balloons will participate in thrilling competition. The balloons will rise from the fields of Tumbleweed Park and compete in a Hare and Hound contest. Spectators are allowed to walk on the field and watch the balloons inflate and lift off. Photo taking is invited. DESERT GLOWS on Friday and Saturday evenings, October 27th & 28th, as a field full of illuminated, tethered, hot air balloons will glow in time to music.

October - Today, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is known worldwide as an event that emphasizes fun flying and camaraderie over serious competition. It’s ironic that the Fiesta got its start, in large measure, as an arena for that most serious of competitions, the World Championships. Albuquerque got the nod as the host city for the world championships when Don Kersten, at the time the President of the Balloon Federation of America (BFA), asked the organizers of the 1972 “first Fiesta” if the city might be willing to bid for the World Championships. Sid Cutter and Tom Rutherford came up with a proposal, which they duly submitted to Kersten. Today, Cutter notes with a chuckle that Kersten carefully didn’t tell him that Albuquerque was the only city he’d approached!

August - We are headquartered in a $6.7 million facility funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and operated by The Parasol Community Foundation. T-RIFF is one of eleven non-profit organizations chosen to be housed in this model collaborative project, the first of its kind in the nation. Operating since 1999, T-RIFF has produced approximately 150 educational events in the literary and multimedia arts. T-RIFF holds ongoing film screenings, short film productions, TV production workshops, screenwriting courses, script/film competitions, and owns and operates Lake Tahoe Public Television.
