Over a hundred years ago, Victoria Ward and her husband Curtis Perry Ward, shared a unique business partnership and created an estate extending from Thomas Square to the shore. Their former home, "Old Plantation", is the site of Blaisdell Concert Hall. When Curtis died in 1882, Victoria Ward and her daughters carried on the family business which continues to influence Honolulu's commercial and retail development to this day.

The mall as of 2007[update] is going through an extensive renovation that has moved the old 10 screen theater to a replacement Cinemark 16 screen "stadium style seating" theater in the north ring road area on Avenue O-8. The vacated theater pad will house new restaurants and a new corridor is being built along it for another 31 stores. The Antelope Valley Mall currently has major retail stores like Aéropostale, Hollister Co., New York & Company, Lane Bryant, American Eagle Outfitters, Anchor Blue, Old Navy, Tilly's, Build-a-Bear Workshop, Zumiez, Hot Topic, and more. Buena Park Downtown, formerly Buena Park Mall, is an enclosed shopping mall located in Buena Park, California, adjacent to the Knott's Berry Farm theme park. The mall is anchored by Bed Bath & Beyond, DSW Shoe Warehouse, Ross Dress For Less, Sears, Steve & Barry's, 24 Hour Fitness, and Wal-Mart. The mall opened in 1961 and is currently managed by Developers Diversified Realty. The mall also has stores across the street with Petsmart, Office Depot, Kohl's and Circuit City as primary tenants. University Mall is a two-story shopping mall located in Orem, Utah. Opening for business in March, 1973, It was named due to its close proximity to Brigham Young University even though now it is even closer to Utah Valley University. Anchor stores include, Macy's (formerly ZCMI; then Meier & Frank), Mervyn's, Nordstrom, and The Sports Authority. The mall is owned, managed and leased out by Woodbury Corporation. Local merchants and a number of independently-owned shops and restaurants can also be found within the mall perimeter. An eight-screen Consolidated Theatres movie theater is nestled into one corner of the mall. Waialae Bowl, the only bowling center within several miles of the neighborhood, was somewhat interestingly built into a McDonald's, at the corner opposite the movie theater. Unfortunately, it has since closed down (not related to the flood, however.) The movie theater in this mall was closed in March 2006. It has since reopened. The closing occurred as a result of flooding from heavy rains. The flood broke a hole through the wall of the theater and flowed into the mall, and parts of the ground floor had 3-6 inches of rain water. Many shops suffered substantially; some never reopened.
